criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them.
One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible
for men to live without breaking laws.”
- Ayn Rand
We know there has been a tidal wave of legislation, but it is mind-boggling to
discover the size of the tsunami. It is estimated that more than 3,600 new
offences have been created. But even more astonishing, as Baroness Stern, a
crossbench peer, discovered when she asked, is the number of these that can
result in a prison sentence. Believe it or not, there are 1,036 that the
official could identify. There may well be more.
That is how Philip Johnston's comment in this morning's Telegraph began. It highlights only too graphically the storm of legislation that has beset the people of the UK, legislation that neither Tory nor Libdem have undertaken to repeal.
This development is uniquely a New Labour phenomenon. All governments
introduce new laws; but this one has turned legislation into an obsessive
political tic, and one that has become more pronounced, not least with the
requirement to implement EU directives.
In 1997, there were 52 imprisonable new laws; by 2003, the annual tally was
181, there were another 174 in 2005 and 133 in 2007.
As Lady Stern said: “The Government has gone mad in
looking to use criminal justice law as a way to deal with social problems.
It is extraordinary.”
In a House of Lords debate before Christmas, Lady Stern quoted from Governing
Through Crime by Jonathan Simon, professor of law at Berkeley in California.
He wrote: “Social problems have been reconceptualised as crimes, with
an attendant focus on assigning fault and imposing consequences.” The
outcome is “to erode social trust and, with it, the very scaffolding of
a 'free' society”.
But, understandable if you understand the Labour Party ideology. Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Pol Pot all used the same method of controlling their people. Criminalise everything, then everyone is a criminal.
The Libertarian Party is the ONLY party that has promised a programme of repeal, to rid this land of such tyrany to return the UK to the time where there was a distinction between crime and misdemeanour's, and to banish the politics of fear once and for all.
Please go read the entire Telegraph article, and in particular read the hundreds of comments that this has drawn, for that in itself is an indicator to the political elite that the people have indeed had enough.
But in order for things to change, people have to do something. They have to stop blindly following the 3 main parties, for they will only give you more of the same.
I urge you to join with the Libertarian Party now, put yourself forward to stand as a Libertarian MP and make that change happen, as neither Cameron nor Clegg will do it for you.
If you continue to vote the same, you will get the same.
Cameron's Tories are the worst offenders of abusing these laws at the Local Authority level. (over 80% of all reported abuses are by Tory led councils). Just imagine the abuse if they were in power.
Clegg's Libdems are in negotiation to get into bed with Labour, guaranteeing more of the same.
People, people, people. If you want a different outcome, then you have to vote differently.
There IS another way!
The
Libertarian
Party
has promised to repeal the list of Treaties with the EU, and the Acts
of Parliament that support them, and to begin a programme of repeal of the 26,000 new laws and 3600 new criminal offences imposed by NuLabour over the past 11 years. We will withdraw from the EU, and
apply to join Europe as a trading partner, the only thing that the
voters of the UK have ever agreed to..
