Tory policy makers are again in total disarray. Again we see the spin machines at work, trying to play with the 'Nudge' but getting it badly wrong.

As we wrote earlier this month, they cannot make up their mind over the big brother databases, with policies and statements that clearly counter each other (the only thing that is clear is that the Tories wont be getting rid of them), and then today there is this.

It
strikes me that the Tory commission that came up with this report (a
group chaired by the head of food company Unilever) have fallen for the
supermarket and food manufacturers line that food labelling is bad. (Tories have previously said they would oppose a traffic light scheme for food labelling)

Graphic ConservativeHome

So
no food traffic light labelling under the Tories, but an expectation
that people should eat more sensibly.

How exactly will the
Tories get people to eat more sensibly if traffic light labelling is
not in place ? How do you get people to take responsibility when the
government removes one of the very things that will make them more
responsible ?

Also note that this food industry driven policy includes 'a voluntary food industry code
that would see a reduction in portion sizes'. That is simply code for
hidden food price increases. Less for more.

Confused ? I guess that's what happens when you let the food industry dictate your policies.

Whatever next from the Tories ? The head of BAE to come up with defence policy, the head of Vodafone to come up with a policy on phone masts ?

Same old Tories. Funded by big business, dictated to by big business and in the pocket of big business.

Corporatist policy making in action.

But, There IS another way!

Whilst other parties gain funding from unions and big business, we only
accept donations from individual electors. Our priority is the British
public, not pandering to the wishes of special interest groups.

HM Revenue & Customs inspectors are to gain new powers to
investigate and fine taxpayers, but safeguards for individuals and
businesses will not come into effect until at least four months later.

Accountancy and tax bodies said the “get tough” regime should be
delayed until a charter is in place to protect taxpayers. They also
argued the charter should be a statute, similar to a bill of rights,
rather than the currently proposed statement of good practice.

HMRC will acquire powers next year to enter business premises and
private homes used for business. For errors that are “careless, but
non-deliberate”, penalties worth up to 30% of an unpaid tax bill can be
levied. Fines worth 70% of the final tax bill could be imposed should
officials believe the taxpayer deliberately ignored the need to make a
payment. Deliberate concealment could trigger fines worth 100% of the
final tax bill. The new powers, outlined in the Finance Act, are due to
come into effect on April 1 2009.

Tax officers will gain powers to inspect and remove information and
documents, while the Treasury will limit the amount taxpayers can
reclaim in wrongly paid tax from six to four years. Income tax, capital
gains tax, VAT and stamp duty tax will be among payments covered by the
new regime. Fines can be imposed from March 2009 on tax bills
calculated from March 2008.

Legalised extortion

This is in my opinion is nothing less than legalised extortion. Such rules are deemed illegal as it rides roughshod over the Bill of Rights 1689, a constitutional bill which is still very much in force.

But, There IS another way!

The Libertarian
Party will immediately cancel such HMRC rules and in line with its flagship policy of removing income tax entirely ensure that criminal records obtained under these
circumstances are expunged from the records and are destroyed.

Security guards and town hall workers are being armed with sweeping police-style powers, it has emerged.

For a few hundred pounds, state and private sector employees can receive Home Office accreditation.

This allows them to hand out fines for a raft of offences, from dropping litter to riding a bike on the pavement.

They can also stop cars to check their tax discs, seize alcohol from underage drinkers and demand people's names and addresses.

The
hope is that they will free up rank-and-file officers from having to
perform these unpopular tasks. The uniformed, badged army of snoopers
will become a vital part of the 'extended police family', ministers
say.

But privacy campaigners have dubbed them Home Secretary Jacqui Smith's 'Stasi' after the East German secret police.

Phil
Booth of NO2ID said: 'This is a sinister move towards a Stasi snooper
state in which jobsworths are devolved the powers of the police -
including the right to demand you identify yourself.'

They can wear a special badge, and a uniform approved by the local
chief constable
. At present, they are wearing their employer's existing
uniform with the badge sewn on, but police chiefs could eventually be
encouraged to decide on a standard uniform across their force area, the
Home Office said.
The department said that the revenue raised by the fines given out
would go to the Treasury
, and would not be kept by private firms or
councils.

So it is likely that the only people who would be attracted by this scheme, are people who have a desire to be little Hitler's, want to wear a uniform and flash a badge at everyone.

They should feel right at home in a uniform just like this then.

Administrative STASI NCO Tunic
If you are one of those impatient types and just cant wait for the Home Office, you can buy yours here

This entire fiasco is in my view legalised extortion. I don't have any evidence, but cough up or it will be the worse for you.

I understand it works like this:
If you pay up (£50 within 10 days, £75 within 14 days), you do not, in
fact, get a criminal record. If you contest, your details are passed
onto the county legal department, and if found guilty the fine can
increase to £2500 and a criminal record. You have no chance whatsoever
of having a court believe your word against one of our countries highly
trained and scrupulously honest political police.

Legalised extortion.

But, There IS another way!

The Libertarian Party will ensure that criminal records obtained under these circumstances are expunged from the records and are destroyed,
and will repeal many of these draconian laws enacted over the past 10 years.
