Olha Herasymiuk, a Verkhovna Rada deputy is asking the
Security Service of Ukraine to exercise control over granting
Ukrainians Russian citizenship because of the situation in Georgia.
“The information about Russian passports
that Ukrainian citizens hold causes serious concern and needs to be
thoroughly checked by SBU in the light of the situation in Georgia “,
she said.
According to Herasymiuk, a people's deputy in Crimea and chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on
National Security and Defense, is calling on special services to
identify Ukrainians with dual citizenship.
The Chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Mustafa Dzhemilev said that possible introduction of dual
citizenship would jeopardize territorial integrity of Ukraine and
provoke a repetition of the South Ossetian situation in Crimea.
The Constitution of Ukraine forbids dual citizenship in Ukraine.
