ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe arrived today in Rome where he will take part in a summit of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), it was reported.

Mr Mugabe, who is usually subject to a travel ban to the European Union but is able to attend UN forums, touched down at Rome-Fiumicino airport about 6am AEST Monday. (that's the small cheap airport just south of Rome where Mugabe gets all his luxury shopping sent home from).

The trip marks the first time that Mugabe has left the country since he lost the first round of a presidential election on March 29 to opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Zimbabwe state television said he was accompanied by his wife Grace and Agriculture Minister Rugare Gumbo.

He is expected to stay in the Italian capital until Saturday.

Mugabe out of Zimbabwe for a whole week, plenty of time for Morgan Tsvangirai to organise a coup, failing that perhaps that moonbat Monbiot might like to try and make a citzens arrest…
