Big Brother NuLab style. The BBC and The Times report.

A massive government database holding details of every phone call, e-mail and
time spent on the internet by the public is being planned as part of the
fight against crime and terrorism. Internet service providers (ISPs) and
telecoms companies would hand over the records to the Home Office under
plans put forward by officials.

A Home Office spokesman said the data was a “crucial tool” for protecting national security and preventing crime.

The spokesman said changes need to be made to the Regulation of
Investigatory Powers Act 2000 “to ensure that public authorities can
continue to obtain and have access to communications data essential for
counter-terrorism and investigation of crime purposes”.

Ministers have not seen the plans which were drawn up by Home Office officials.

Are these people stark staring mad? No they are quite serious, they know exactly what they are doing as they plan yet another move towards controlling every aspect of your life, as it
follows plans for vast databases for the ID cards scheme and NHS patients.

Notice that it is not the Ministers who are drawing up these Orwellian schemes, (because they don't have any power any more), it is the Civil Servants, who now of course work for the EU (they are just paid for by you).
The proposal has emerged as part of plans to implement an EU directive
developed after the July 7 bombings to bring uniformity of record-keeping..

As we march towards ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, the database state within the European Empire will be in place by 2010 and you WILL belong to Big Brother.

Even the Information Commissioners office thinks so.

But the Information Commission, an independent authority set up to
protect personal information, said the database “may well be a step too
far” and highlighted the risk of data being lost, traded or stolen.

Assistant information commissioner Jonathan Bamford said: “We are not
aware of any justification for the state to hold every UK citizen's
phone and internet records. We have real doubts that such a measure can
be justified, or is proportionate or desirable.

The plans also prompted concern from political groups.

Libertarian Party leader, Patrick Vessey, said, “This government simply does not know where to draw the line.

“This
is not only a wholly intrusive penetration of individual privacy, but a
representation of the accelerating march of the database state”.

“Government
ministers do not seem to understand that privacy is a natural and
inalienable liberty, in violating it our government is yet again
demonstrating what a moral abscess the state has become.

“Furthermore,
it is laughable to suggest the proposals are in any way feasible. The
government has proven its total lack of technological understanding
time and time again. Even if they managed to deploy such an enormous
system there is little chance the data would be kept secure.”

The
UK Libertarian Party believes in maximum individual liberty and a state
that cannot act to violate the rights of the citizens.

The shadow home secretary, David Davis, said: “Given [ministers']
appalling record at maintaining the integrity of databases holding
people's sensitive data, this could well be more of a threat to our
security than a support.”

Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne called the proposals “an Orwellian step too far”.

He said ministers had “taken leave of their senses if they think
that this proposal is compatible with a free country and a free
people”.

“Given the appalling track record of data loss, this state is simply
not to be trusted with such private information,” said Mr Huhne.

Is this the world you want for your Children?

This is what you have to look forward to in Post Democratic Europe !! A Europe not run by elected officials but by the European Commission, where UK Civil Servants tell Ministers what to implement, and as you can see above, its not really for your own good.
