On Wednesday 13 February, the EU focuses on its external borders. The Commission will adopt a "border management package".
Package aims at contributing to a better management
and control of migration flows, the surveillance of travellers to and
from the EU and more security through border controls.
Frontex, the European agency for the coordination of external border cooperation, is evaluated as well. FRONTEX
coordinates operational cooperation between Member States in the field
of management of external borders; assists Member States in the
training of national border guards, including the establishment of
common training standards; carries out risk analyses; follows up the
development of research relevant for the control and surveillance of
external borders; assists Member States in circumstances requiring
increased technical and operational assistance at external borders.
'Next', a Communication on border management tools is presented
which includes an increased surveillance of travellers to the EU.
Another communication tabled by the Commission is about a proposal to set
up a European Border Surveillance System.
