I know I have written
about this subject before,
but now the time for voting us apon us, we must look at the legitimacy of the
system employed by the government to collect and count our votes.
It is being
widely reported
here and again here
that Government pushed for new postal scanning systems and electronic voting
systems to be made available, even though no testing of these systems has taken
place, and in some cases the equipment has not been delivered to local
councils. The Security of the electronic voting systems is also in question.
The threat to the
British people of abuse of the electoral system is huge, and the desire of
Labour to win at all costs is even higher.
The chairman of
the Committee on Standards in Public Life Sir Alistair Graham, suggested in February
that electoral fraud has increased sharply as a result of postal voting, and
that e-voting should be postponed or scrapped.
Even today, John
Turner, the chief executive of the Association of Electoral Administrators, said
that a new system for vote counting may not be up to the job.
Turner has warned
that because of the rushed implementation legitimate votes could be rejected,
and councils may have to postpone the count as returning officers resort to the
manual checking of thousands and thousands of ballot papers.
He said the new system should
have been piloted at a small number of local authorities. “It could then
have been rolled out on a national basis in 2008,” he said. The government
decided to go ahead this year, however.
The BBC is reporting massive increases in demand for postal votes, up by 600% in some areas, and we wonder whether this is anything to do with the revelations earlier this week of EU citizens and immigrant voting rights. Is it possible that newly arrived immigrants are being targeted and being told to vote in this way.
Don’t be
surprised to see many Labour councillors returned in areas where everyone
thought that they stood no chance. If this is allowed to go unmonitored and
unchecked, then the very idea of democracy is dead in this country.
Its time for
International Monitors to watch over those who are responsible for counting the
votes, in the name of democracy and freedom. A delegation from the Council of
Europe looked at this in early February, but their report has never been
published.
