The argument over
how to ensure that our world survives into the next millennium is likely to
rage on for a long time.

Government only
has one answer, more tax, more tax, more tax.

  • They have promoted Carbon Credits,
which don’t actually force anyone to reduce carbon output, but have
generated a market in the credits, which government takes a cut from.
  • They have increased duties on fuel, and
in turn VAT in an attempt to stop people travelling so much.
  • They are looking at road charging to
    stop people travelling so much.
  • They have introduced Passenger tax on
airlines to penalise us for travelling so much.
  • And they are going to introduce in London exhaust emissions tax of £25 per day
    for travelling through
London (except London buses, which are exempt, although
    70pct of all
London buses don’t meet existing emission
    standards).

There is however
a better way, that is better cars, more fuel efficient cars, cars that put out
fewer carbon emissions, and therefore better for the planet.

  • The car manufactures don’t want it,
it means doing something, and they want to charge us up to 30pct more for
    the products.
  • The Oil companies don’t want it,
because it means that we would be buying less of their products, hitting
    their profits.
  • The government don’t want it, because
they would lose out on the taxes on the fuel, congestion charging and road
    charging.
  • The Green lobby don’t want it,
because it upsets their loony left agenda.

We must be able
to get government to agree to force car manufactures to take up the new
technologies to enable green cars, but not at the expense of the tax payer, so
forget any more of the stupid left wing satellite tracking and taxation schemes.

The drive for
more efficient cars is being driven in the
US by the state of California, who are demanding a 34 pct reduction in
emissions, but the car manufacturers are taking them to court in an attempt to
get this stopped.

But the
engineers have a solution
.  On the 1st March 07, they made the
following press
release
.

Automotive
engineers at the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) today unveiled a minivan
design that shows automakers can build affordable vehicles with existing
technology that would meet or exceed global warming pollution standards for
cars and trucks adopted by
California and 10 other states.

Automakers are
currently fighting these standards in court.

The minivan,
dubbed the UCS Vanguard, features off-the-shelf engine, transmission and
fueling systems and other technologies that would save consumers money,
maintain vehicle safety and performance, and cut global warming pollution by
more than 40 percent.

All of the
technologies in the Vanguard are in vehicles on the road today, but automakers
have yet to combine them all in one single package. (For a computer-generated
animation of the Vanguard's features and the full report, go to www.ucsusa.org/UCSVanguard.)

“Today's
announcement confirms that we already have the technology and the tools to
combat climate change and that now it is simply a question of the political
will,” said Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski.

Oregon adopted the California tailpipe standard in 2005. “Oregon is committed to transitioning to a new
generation of cleaner vehicles, and this project demonstrates a clear path
forward. It is my hope this will encourage the rest of the nation to join
Oregon and the other states already pledged to
reduce auto emissions.”

We
now need to force the UK GOVERNMENT to look seriously at automotive technology,
not taxes, taxes, taxes.

Break
the cycle of taxation.

Break
the Oil Company lobby.

Break
the Green lobby loony left policies.

When the
government called for lower car emissions, the immediate reaction from the auto
industry was ‘we cant do it, unless we charge 30pct more for our cars’.

THIS IS NOT TRUE

We believe that
there is an alliance between the auto industry across
Europe and the Green Tax raisers like Ken
Livingston and Gordon Brown, and the other treasury ministers of
Europe.

They know that
they can raise billions in taxes from car drivers before being forced into
making cars actually lower emission levels, and the auto makers want to cash in
on that as well.

That assertion is
now being challenged by the Union of Concerned Scientists. source

Yesterday the UCS
unveiled a minivan design that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more
than 40 percent while saving consumers money and keeping safety and performance
intact. Besides it uses off-the-shelf technologies, including the engine,
transmission, and fuelling systems, saving the litigious manufacturers millions
in R&D costs, it enables them to drop their legal challenge to emissions
standards and get back to work making cars that people can drive without
despoiling the planet.

Meeting laws for
fighting global warming should be no sweat for the automakers. They already
have the solution to pollution right under the bonnets of their own cars and
trucks.

We all want to
save the planet, to lower dramatically the pollutants from cars, but this is up
to government and the car makers, it must not be allowed to be used as an
excuse to add more financial burden on the already overtaxed car owner.

I will be doing a
little more digging on this subject, and will update with more information.
