Smokers in eight of the 16 German states
were taking a final, New Year's Eve puff Monday before a partial ban on
smoking in restaurants and bars went into effect at midnight.
 
The ban, in step with France's prohibition of bistro smoking from
January 1, has angered many Germans, who have denounced it as an
invasion of their personal liberty.

The exact terms differ from state to state. Most allow premises to maintain separate bars for smokers.

In effect, the new rules only require a main smoke-free area in bars and restaurants.

While most city hotels have enough space to segregate smokers in
separate bars, smaller premises which cannot be partitioned will have
to ask smokers to step outside.

The rules have been largely
respected in the three German states that applied bans back in August
and October. Five more states have yet to act, with the last two set to
legislate bans by July 2008.

The federal government has no
authority over the catering trade, but has egged the 16 states to agree
among themselves on a coordinated smoking ban in the whole nation.

Bavaria has been the strictest of the eight starting with a ban on
Tuesday. It will not permit separate smoking bars, and smoking is also
being prohibited in beer tents at the annual Oktoberfest and other
public festivals.

The other seven states beginning the ban in
the new year are Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg West
Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein.

Publicans
are collecting funds to mount a legal challenge against the bans before
Germany's federal constitutional court, alleging a breach of basic
rights.

The federal government used its powers over transport
to ban smoking from September 1, 2007 in taxis, on buses, on trains and
in planes anywhere in Germany. (source)

German leftists and liberals who oppose
police access to telecommunications records demonstrated Monday and
said they had filed a petition by 30,000 people for a
constitutional-court review of the practice.
  The
protests were held a day before new legislation comes into force
requiring companies to retain records for six months of the to and from
addresses of e-mail, time spent on the internet and phone numbers
dialled by customers.

Police require a judicial warrant to search the files during inquiries into terrorism and serious crime.

Libertarian groups, citing the telephone snooping in totalitarian
states, angrily opposed the data-retention legislation when it was
passed. Unlike many countries, Germany has not let police use such data
for decades.

At a rally Monday in the northern city of
Hamburg, opponents held a mock funeral for “the death of privacy.”
Police said the demonstration by 200 people passed off without
violence. Organizers claimed 500 attended.

In the southern
justice capital of Karlsruhe, the Working Party on Data Retention filed
for an urgent injunction to stop the legislation on the grounds that it
was “obviously unconstitutional.”

They said the 150-page
application against “surveillance without suspicion” was initially by
eight people, but was backed by 30,000 who had signed petitions.

Their names would be joined to the suit after processing by a Berlin
law office, making it the largest such appeal in modern German history.

“We are hoping for a quick ruling,” said lawyer Meinhard
Starostik leading the group. But a court spokesman said judges would
not sit on the case Monday.

The activists said they would
also seek to overturn the March 2006 European Union data-retention
directive that required Germany to pass the legislation. (source)

As we enter into a new year, we discover another truth that our governments have been keeping from us, which is clearly heard in the David Frost interview with Benazir Bhutto filmed in November.that OSAMA BIN LADEN is dead, murdered.

Could you wish for a more reliable or informed source ?

These 2 clips, the first from YouTube, just over two minutes in, Bhutto clearly said Osama Bin Laden was murdered by someone and she said it as if it was common knowledge and an accepted fact.

The second clip from the aired version on the BBC where the camera cuts to Frost and the passage about Bin Laden is cut out.

Are the clips authentic, I don't know, but I do know what I heard.

Since this movie The Wave
was based on a real experiment at a high school in 1967, you can just
ignore those who glibly claim that “it can’t happen here”.
Unfortunately, it can happen here and it IS happening here. The proof
is in the fact that I can’t even talk like this in public without the
people around me getting very disturbed and hostile. And if I were to
walk up to a group of shoppers at the mall suggesting that we live in a
fascist dictatorship, that our rights are being stripped, that private
property is under threat, that 9/11 was an inside job, that the war is
a total fraud, that global warming is a hoax designed to “unite the
world” and that our leaders on both sides are murdering terrorist
gangsters who have defrauded Americans of trillions and are pushing us
by stealth into a North-American Union and on to global government,
someone is bound to come try to shut me up while others will be afraid
to say anything lest they be attacked themselves.

Therefore, we live in a Stasi-like self-policing climate of fear and
paranoia where anyone who dares to criticize the government is seen as
a dangerous “conspiracy theorist” or even as a terrorist to be reported
to the fascist authorities at Homeland Security. And those who question
climate change are labeled as “global warming deniers”, dangerous
people who believe that the sun is warming the solar system. We are the
ones who will refuse to get sterilized or maintain one-child families.
We are the ones who will refuse to take the chip implant and the
neurotoxic injections. We are the sane ones, the ones with any sense
left in our heads, yet are believed to be crazy fanatics who are a
threat to world order. That is how brainwashed and warped people have
become.

So group-think has taken hold in America. We are no longer a land of
individualists. We have been transformed into a bunch of robotic goons
ready to do whatever the government tells us “for our safety”. And this
is exactly what happened in Nazi Germany, and in fact it is happening
all over the world, by design. And the liberals, socialists and
“progressives” out there who know Bush and the neocons are bad, think
themselves to be the very antithesis of fascism, yet they are just as
vulnerable to it as anyone else. The Right is controlled through the
War on Terror paradigm, but the Left is controlled through the Global
Warming paradigm, two false paradigms with the same ulterior motive, to
use chaos and fear to unite the world under a global fascist
dictatorship.

So as you watch this movie, keep in mind that anyone, of any
political persuasion, can be whipped up into a fascist mindset, even
though he sees it as something wonderful and fantastic. Hitler put it
best:

“Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can
be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to
consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.”
