The government wants to extend the Freedom of Information Act to companies and contractors which “carry out functions of a public nature”.
In a new consultation paper , the state says it seems appropriate to subject firms under contract with a public body to the same scrutiny as bodies within the Act's scope.
One approach being considered is to build information access obligations into services contracts with private sector suppliers which deliver public services. more »
