In what can only be described as a County
at the end of its tether, the premier Norfolk daily paper, the Eastern Daily
Press (
EDP) has delivered on behalf of its beleaguered police force, local
councils and taxpayers a scathing attack on the Home Office.

With the headline For
what purpose is our funding loss fit, Dr Reid? The full page article confirms
in the best way possible that Dr Reid is a man out of his depth, who is
grasping at straws, and doesn’t have a clue on how to run a government
department.

But, like the rest of
us, it has also come to the conclusion that it will be you and I, the taxpayers
who will pay for the incompetence, arrogance and lack of duty.

Is it now time
perhaps, not only for the Home Secretary to quit, but for the government to
call it a day, dissolve parliament and call a General Election, because its now
quite clear, that we the people have had enough of this inept government.

The latest
entrant in the Government's war of attrition on the Metropolitan Police
investigation into the Cash for Peerages scandal emerged this evening.

I am sorry to say
that it is Frank
Field
. A man who I have always viewed with respect, and does indeed
command the respect of the House of Commons, across all political parties.

It is therefore
sad to see that this man has thrown his hat into the ring, suggesting that the
Met’s investigation is misplaced.

Has the ‘Party’
got to the stage where it is now so scared of what the Police have gathered by
way of evidence that they have to resort to personal attacks on the integrity of
the senior officers conducting it, and at the same time introduce yet another
veiled threat of impending terrorist action.

The ‘facts’ as
portrayed by Frank Field in his article with regard to a dirty bomb are clearly
designed to scare, because they bear little relation to reality.

As I have written
about before, a dirty bomb would have minimal effect as a devise, but have
maximum scare value to the point of public panic, but certainly not as Mr
Fields describes leaving swathes of
London desolate for years.

This kind of
authoritarian political bullying must stop.
  Whilst it
may be someone more subtle than the outbursts from Ministers at the weekend, It
is still both unprofessional and unethical, and I am sorry to say, beneath the
standards usually associated with Frank Fields.

The Police have a duty to fulfill, whether Frank Field, the Labour party in general or any member of the Government like it or not.  They would be failing in their duty not to investigate such serious allegations.

Today the Government
has announced “more money” for 40 Local Authorities to
set up Anti-Social Behaviour Order “Respect Zones”.

Out of 312, The
only Local Council on the list of ASBO Respect Zones, not due to vote on May 7th,
is Hastings Borough Council, and it has been suggested that the Government could be
buying votes in the more marginal seats.

Perhaps a commons
statement on how these Zones were identified and the funds allocated would
clear this matter up.

The
40 respect zones are:

Birmingham City Council,
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Blackpool Council, Bolton Metropolitan
Borough Council, Bournemouth Borough Council, Brighton and Hove City Council,
Bristol City Council, Burnley Borough Council, City of Bradford Metropolitan
District Council, City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, Coventry
City Council, Derby City Council, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council,
Exeter City Council, Gloucester City Council, Harlow District Council, Hastings
Borough Council, Ipswich Borough Council, Kingston upon Hull City Council,
Kirklees Metropolitan Council, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Leeds
City Council, Leicester City Council, Liverpool City Council, Manchester City
Council, Middlesbrough Council, Newcastle City Council, Norwich City Council,
Nottingham City Council, Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council, Plymouth City
Council, Portsmouth City Council, Salford City Council, Sandwell Metropolitan
Borough Council, Sheffield City Council, South Tyneside Council, Southampton
City Council, Southend on Sea Borough Council, Sunderland City Council, Wirral
Metropolitan Borough Council.

It
is also worth noting that none of the Zones are in
London.  Perhaps Sir Ian Blair is right, London is such a safe place to
live.

In a letter that I can only say beggars
belief, Geoff Hoon, the Europe Minister openly admitted that Labour policy was
to ignore the legal basis when voting for European legislation.

In a letter
sent on Nov 9 to a Commons watchdog on EU legislation, the cross-party European
Scrutiny Committee He said “the Government will support measures even
where it had doubts about the legal base”.

I ask, IS THIS HOW WE WENT TO WAR !!

This is the mark and legacy of our
Government – don’t care whether what they do is within the law or not, and they
do it in your name.

I have to agree with Graham Brady,
Conservative spokesman on
Europe, said it showed an “arrogant disregard for democracy and the
rule of law”.

How dare this government admit that it
doesn’t give a damn about the law, and then criminalise everything we do.

Well I am sorry, but to me, and probably
most of the citizens of this country, IT DOES MATTER.

This revelation will open the floodgates
and probably means that Britons can now challenge every single European law
imposed on us, through the courts, and test its legal basis.

This issue needs to be investigated by the
police, and charges brought against Geoff Hoon, who has admitted in writing
that he acts illegally, and any other minister who does likewise.

This government truly believes that it is
above the law, as expressed by Lord Goldsmith when giving a lecture to lawyers
in the
US last September,
when he stated, “the
UK government doesn't have to obey unsympathetic court rulings”.

I
have warned many times in this blog, Old Soviet style politics – At every
level, in every way, Do as I say, not as I do.
