Cabinet minister Peter Hain woke up today, and read the writing on the wall for New Labour.

He described the US government as the "most right-wing" in living memory.

In a move designed to distance himself from Blair policy, Mr Hain, a deputy leadership contender, said in an interview with the New Statesman magazine, “President George Bush's foreign policy has "failed".

He said: "The neo-con mission has failed.

"It's not only failed to provide a coherent international policy, it's failed wherever it's been tried, and it's failed with the American electorate, who kicked it into touch last November."

Admitting that government policy had been flawed, he went on to say that: "The problem for us as a government ... was actually maintaining a working relationship with what was the most right-wing American administration - if not ever, then in living memory".

Does this mean that we can now switch off all the government computers, and go back to being a free and Independent UK again…..
