View Article  PR and targets govern Education factories
There is far too much emphasis on testing and targets and not enough emphasis of the development of thinking, creativity and character in the education system, largely due to the stranglehold of central government who have imposed a system that has been narrow and inflexible. I want an education system that allows people to develop as individuals, with a completely free choice of where and how children are educated.   more »

Libertarians at Oxford University

Today the Libertarian Party leadership team set off to Trinity College Oxford to talk to some of our future 'leaders' along with some of the leading lights of the Libertarian Party, in the hope that we can persuade at least some of them that the path to national contentment is not an ever increasing State and political class.

On reflection our decision not to contest Crewe & Nantwich was the right one- The media are just focussing on the three main statist parties and the standard of political debate is as Iain Dale said on Radio four last night, lamentable. If all that NuLab can come up with is Toffs and keeping Brown away from the place they deserve to lose.

View Article  Is Hazel Blears creating Britain's Stasi?
A guidance document put out this week by Hazel Blears' Department of Communities has laid out plans for community "tension monitoring", entailing snooping on neighbours and political activists, restrictions on the media, and large-scale data sharing.   more »
View Article  This is how Labour represents its voters
Less than 2 weeks after loosing an unprecedented number of local councils, the Labour party who has promised to listen and learn still proves that its rejected ideology is more important than the voters or their wishes.   more »
View Article  What alternatives do voters have after the elections
The Local elections held on May 1st across the UK are now over. The result are in, and people have overwhelmingly rejected the policies of our incumbent NuLab Government. So what exactly where they rejecting?.   more »
View Article  Global ID card programme
The Government change programme that Gordon Brown keeps talking about, but never gives any details on is part of the larger European project. One of its aims is to break down and make worthless every form of identification that you currently hold, forcing you to take the government issued and run ID Card. The constant and repeated release of your personal information by Government and big business is not down to ineptitude, it is by design.   more »
View Article  No 10p Tax Band. Or 20p. Or 40p.
The abolition of the 10p tax band, which previously meant that the first £2,230 of income above the personal allowance (£5,225 up until April 6) was taxed at 10% (HMRC) has met with some justified criticism from politicians and commentators pointing out that, in spite of the Government's rhetoric, the move will make the poorest workers worse off. The Libertarian Party, of which I am a member, are of the view that a great improvement would be made to this policy by going two steps further. Specifically, what is needed to put things right is for the 20p and 40p bands to be abolished as well.   more »
View Article  Brown said he would listen, the people are now talking !
Over on Labour's website, there is a message from Gordon Brown (listen and lead). Unfortunately for Gordon, someone forgot to turn the comments off. He's getting it right in the neck from the (ex) party faithful. Warning it is not pretty.   more »
